A serious stretch of the M61 has been shut this morning following what officers have described as a “police-led incident”.
The motorway is closed southbound between Junction 5 for Westhoughton and Junction 4, whereas visitors has additionally been delivered to a halt on the northbound carriageway between Junctions 4 and 5.
Emergency providers are on the scene and the A579 St Helens Highway can also be reportedly shut. Lengthy queues are already constructing in each instructions as drivers face main disruption.
