Ian Huntley UPDATES: Assassin left mendacity ‘in pool of blood’ as suspect recognized

Ian Huntley has suffered severe accidents after being attacked in a high-security jail in County Durham on Thursday, February 26. The Soham assassin was rushed to hospital after the incident, which reportedly left him mendacity “in a pool of blood”.

Huntley was convicted of the murders of 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire, in 2002 and is serving a life sentence with a minimal of 40 years at HMP Frankland in County Durham. The assault is believed to have occurred in a jail workshop, and to have been carried out by one other inmate with “an iron bar”, MailOnline studies. A prisoner in his mid-40s has been recognized as a suspect within the assault on Huntley and stays in detention inside HMP Frankland, County Durham, police stated on Thursday. Durham Constabulary’s spokesperson stated: “Police forensic groups have examined the scene of the assault all through the day to collect proof. A suspect, a male prisoner in his mid-40s, has been recognized by officers investigating the incident. He has not been arrested at this stage however stays in detention throughout the jail.”

North East Ambulance Service points assertion

Paramedics had been dispatched to the jail following the assault.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson stated: “We acquired a name at 9.23am on Thursday 26 February 2026 to studies of an incident at HM Jail Frankland in County Durham.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews to the scene and requested help from the Nice North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

“One affected person was transported to hospital by highway.”
