Higher Manchester Mayor hits again after being prevented from standing within the parliamentary by-election
Andy Burnham recommended Labour might lose a crunch upcoming by-election after he was blocked from standing. The Higher Manchester Mayor was denied permission to face in Gorton and Denton by Labour’s Nationwide Government Committee (NEC) which incorporates Sir Keir Starmer.
The NEC cited the price of preventing a mayoral by-election and the chance of shedding the Higher Manchester mayoralty.
